Santa’s Visit 2020

Santa Visit 2020

As he is known to do, Santa tip toed in for a quick visit at Merrill Law.

With Covid in mind, he arrived without his reindeer or his favorite friend Jingles. He kept his distance as he checked out the holiday decorations to make sure we had joined the Holiday Spirit.

We all know that Santa has been a front runner in his use of Technology to keep tabs on all the Boys and Girls. So all these digital meetings might very well have been invented by one of his Elves.

He inspected our Zoom Room and gave it a thumbs up in approval.

Santa has agreed to let us host a special life sized photo booth. He has dispatched his sleigh to send us the specially made stand up cut out of himself, for our photo booth.

We will post a special note when it arrives, so that you can be part of the fun. Free “U-Take” photos with Santa Standee.

Be sure to follow along with us as we see what other great ideas he has for us this year!

2020 Winner Rick Merrill Attorney Dream Scholarship

The Attorney Rick Merrill Dream Scholarship

The Dream Scholarship was started in 2016 to help support the dreams of a current high school or college student looking to make a difference through the pursuit of their passion.

Applicants were asked to submit a picture with a caption that in combination shares their dream and shows how it makes a difference.

Each year we present a $1500 scholarship to applicant who provides the most creative photo or image with a caption to  explain their dream.

2020 Winner Shelvina Singh

This is a picture of my Papa’s last day on earth. His hand is on the bottom (past), mine is the middle hand (present) and my son on top (future). This picture represents 3 generations.

Growing up I always wanted to be able to help everyone and if I saw someone sad it would make me sad. My dad always wanted me to do something that would benefit others but life had other plans for me. Now I am 31 years old and back in college to pursue my dream to be a nurse. I know how much it would make my dad proud.  I got my high school diploma at 30 years old and now on my way to a nursing degree.

The reason I chose this picture is because my dad holds my past, I am my present and my son is our future. My son is the reason I got it together and went back to college to get my degree. This hasn’t been an easy journey with everything that is going on at the moment but I know the day I get my degree my Papa will be so very proud of me.

Congratulations to our Winner.

We wish you well in your efforts to become a Registered Nurse.

Special Thank you.

This year we would like to thank Mary and Bruce Nemeth and Mr. Hur for partnering with Rick Merrill to provide this scholarship.

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day

A salute for that special Mother who has looked after us and touched our lives for the better.

Bringing joy to a birthday, playing in the sun with us as a child, baking cookies, cheering in the stands, staying awake with us through the night while we battle a nasty illness, showering us with butterfly kisses and band aids.

Sharing our laughter, and tears along with bits of wisdom and humor.

Mom “isms”…

Those strange sayings, that pop out of my mouth and give people just a moment of surprise and usually a smile.

So to all of you dedicated Mothers, and to their children…of any age…

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Here’s to all the amazing Mothers

Avid supporters of their family

Patient and Persistent in their dedication

Praise upon their lips

Yet attentive when the need for direction must be given

Making magnificent memories

Overseeing our accomplishments with joy

Touching our hearts in so many ways

Helping us through the difficult times in life

Encouraging us to pursue our dreams and aspirations

Reaching toward our goals

Sharing in a selfless manner

Determined to provide stability and guidance

Always loving, hoping, and caring

Yearning to see their children reflect Love, Life, Learning

Girl Scout Cookies for the Future

Girl Scout Cookies for the Future

Each year the sales of Girl Scout cookies provide funds for great learning adventures, and other opportunities for girls.  In addition these girls are learning a variety of valuable life skills while they are planning, setting up, selling and reporting their sales of these delightful morsels.

We like to help youth reach for their goals and has been purchasing Girl Scout Cookies for the past several years. These young ladies sold Merrill Law up to a total of 40 boxes of Cookies each year.

Girl Scout Fun and Goals

It is exciting to listen as they tell us the things they enjoy in Girl Scouts.

Some of their goals have included trips to Disneyland, Fundraising for Summer Camps, Build-a-bear donation to Seattle Children’s Hospital, Support for yearly meetings to help make the fun keep happening.

The girls came from Troops in Bothell, Everett, Maltby, Monroe, Mukilteo, and Woodinville.

When asked what their favorite Girl Scout event was their answers included:

  • A cruise to Mazatlan with the troop.
  • Camping in cabins-because “Who wants to do the work of setting up the tent!”
  • World Thinkers Day and Stuff the Bus with schools supplies to donate to students in need.
  • A trip to the Birch Bay Water Park and giving Teddy Bears to kids at Children’s Hospital.
  • Horseback riding at Camp.
  • Earning all of the Badges.

One group ordered 25,000 boxes of cookies, one scout had already surpassed her sales goal.

Gotten many tickets dropped or the charge reduced to a non moving violation. Yes it would be great if they all could be dropped but at the end of the day my insurance is still affordable. Anyone leaving bad reviews about the Merrill's not getting a charge totally dismissed did not listen or read well enough when entering the contact as they make it very clear that both are a possibility.

Get to Know You Contests

Ricks First Wheels…

Was a 1959 Ford. I bought my first truck from my father when I was 16 years old for $300.

We would like to share with you some of the cool stories that were entered.

Brandon-1976 Datsun 280Z. A friend of mine got a 1975 280Z for his 16th birthday which his dad painted and customized. He took me on a ride in it and I was searching Craigslist that night. Not even a week later, I had arranged to drive to Tacoma and meet a guy selling a 280Z that wasn’t running. We brought a battery and some gas and drove it back to Everett without issue! I’ve done a lot of work (and spent way too much money) on it in the 7 years that I’ve owned it, but I learned a lot and met some great people in that time.

Margie-1968 Ford Fairlane wagon, baby blue 🙂 .. I bought it myself with babysitting money. $250

Isaiah-1986 Lincoln town car pearl white red interior boss 302. Used it to get to work as a flagger for 6 months.

Maksim-2007 Audi A4. Rick had me covered in court when I wrecked it 🙂

Jennifer– Bought my first car from my mom, who bought it from my great grandma. It was a 1987 Nissan Sentra. Bright red, my great grandma bought it off the showroom floor in 1987! My friends nicknamed the car Snail, and it was very fitting!

Vanessa-1977 Ford Mustang Cobra. Just like the one in the 1970s Charlie’s Angel’s TV show but black with gold stripes. My dad took out the stock 302 and put a 351 Windsor. IT was a traffic ticket magnet.

Jenica-My first car was a brown and orange Ford Pinto. I’m not sure what year it was. I was a senior in high school and we bought it from our neighbors for $500. I was so excited to have my own car! I only had it for a few months when I was driving on the freeway and the engine blew. I barely made it off the exit and had it parked on the side of the road overnight. We returned to have it towed the next day and a semi-trunk hadn’t seen it and backed into it and crushed the front end. That was the end of my car.

Rick Presented our drawing winners with a $100 Gas Card.

Tami-My first car was Toyota Corolla that I worked all summer at a used car lot to buy.

MaryAnn-1964 Chevy Nova.

Snowman Contest To Celebrate a Snow Day!

We had some very fun entries for our Snowman Photo Contest last week.  Each one brought smiles to share throughout the office.

Congratulations to our winners! We sent them $50 for their Cool Creations.

Jody K submitted this sneaky snowman.

2019 Winners

My name is Jack Gardner, and my dream is to write children’s books that inspire kids to think differently about the world, to let their imaginations fly beyond where our “grownup” minds can take us.   I realized that I had the ability to incite this feeling in other people through my writing.

When I was 12 years old my teacher gave us an assignment to write and illustrate a picture book to be presented in class. I entitled mine The Biggelow.

I’m currently a student at EVCC in the running start program. I’m excited to take English and Literature classes that will help me a better writer.

June Chang: Psychology & Economics

We are ecstatic to support June Chang with her dream- Psychology and Economics

This statue shows a grandchild with his grandfather sitting on a bench, expressing feelings of love and familial bond represents what many are hoping for: love, acceptance, healing, and strength in times of adversity.

Runner up winners

Hannah Hitterdal: Criminal Justice & Sociology

We are ecstatic to support Hannah Hitterdal with her dream-Criminal Justice and Sociology

I have a passion to change the correctional facilities to help inmates. I believe that giving the inmates an education, a highschool diploma or a higher education degree, is an effective way of setting them up on the right foot. Animal Therapy has been proven to be one of the most effective ways of rehabilitating inmates.  They train animals for many purposes and give them back to the community they hurt.

Nora Dennelly: Harpist

Corrine Booth: Choir Teacher

We are ecstatic to support Corrine Booth with her dream- Choir Teacher

My dream is to go to college for the music education program to be a choir director.

Nursing homes have always had a special place in my heart so at the end of every month, we go sing for them. Nothing makes me smile more than when an elder grabs my hand after performing and tells me how thankful they are.  Using my talents to brighten someone’s day brings me so much joy.

Ruth Culbertson: Music Teacher

We are ecstatic to support Ruth Culbertson with her dream- Music Teacher

My dream after college is to become a music teacher. I have a passion for music as well as for working with youth. Working with kids can be very rewarding and provides many fun moments that shape students’ lives in a positive and exciting way! This is just one of many examples.

Emma Raker: Music Teacher

We are ecstatic to support Emma Raker with her dream- Music Teacher

Dreams do come true and I cannot wait for those dreams to happen. As a Music Teacher, I want to make a lasting impact in my future student’s lives. I hope to inspire them to make the world a better place, while educating them on musicianship and the values that I have been taught through my music teachers

My ultimate goal is to take a group of students to play at Carnegie Hall, just as I had the opportunity to because playing there greatly fostered my passion of music.

Kayla Sprague: Computer Science

We are ecstatic to support Kayla Sprague with her dream- Computer Science and Software Engineering

I stared at my dad’s computer monitor, an unplugged computer keyboard in my reach. From toddler to adulthood, video games have given me the opportunity to be an adventurer fueled by curiosity and the desire to learn.  I have embarked on my path with an insatiable fascination with machine learning, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality to motivate me.

If videogames have taught me anything, it is that where there is a will, there is a way.  I am fortunate enough to have learned that in a high chair.
