Monday Morning Smiles Everett Co-op Supply

MMS Everett Coop1500.jpg

A Morning Smile goes out to Co-Op Supply in Everett, WA.

Rick was happy to deliver a cheery bouquet of flowers from Blue Ribbon Flowers after reading the nominations.

The nomination stated "I had a bad back and a busted knee so I wasn't looking forward to removing myself from my couch. As soon as I entered Co-Op supply they welcomed me in and directed me to the food isle. The ladies were extremely helpful. They helped me carry the food not only to the register but also outside to my car. Thank you Co-Op Supply for turning my frown upside down!".

Keep up the great work and thank you for serving our community!

Infraction Continuance

continuance 1500.jpg

What is a Continuance for an Infraction?

There is a chance that we will need to ask for a continuance for your case.

A “Continuance” is a motion to the court to request that a new court hearing date be set. Continuances are normal and have no negative impact on the outcome of your case.

There are multiple reasons why a motion to continue may be filed.

Examples can include:

  • Court calendar scheduling conflicts.

  • Perhaps we are waiting for the complete documentation that we have requested to build the defense for your case.

How Many Times?

This depends on the court that the case is assigned to and the judge that is presiding. In some situations motions to continue may be allowed multiple times for a case. In other situations they may only be allowed one time.

We file the appropriate documents to allow the court to reset the case to a new hearing date. The court will then have a new 120 days to hold a hearing for the traffic infraction.

Do I Need To Worry?

No. The new court date will be placed on our calendar, and we will address the new hearing on your behalf.

Once we have a confirmed outcome for your infraction, you will be notified of the details by mail.

Call us now to ask additional questions or to hire an experienced attorney who has deep connections with the local legal system.

After You Hire Merrill Law for a Traffic Ticket

What happens after you hire Merrill Law for representation for a traffic ticket?

After you have completed the client agreement form and provided payment. Our legal team members will process the proper paperwork to fight your ticket.

We will notify the court in writing that Merrill Law is representing you, and we will request the Discovery.

The Discovery are documents that include the sworn reports from the arresting officer for the Attorney to review and build a defense for your specific case.

Setting a Court Date

When the court receives our notice of appearance, the court clerks will assign a court date. We watch your case closely for this date to be set and calendar for the attorney to appear on your behalf.

The court has 120 days to hold a hearing for the traffic infraction.

Sometimes the courts will send you a notice of the hearing date. You are not required to attend or fill out the statement, as we will address your infraction at the court hearing. You do not need to miss any of your own obligations.

Sometimes an infraction will have more than one hearing date for a variety of reasons. We will address this infraction for you until it has been resolved.

The day of your hearing

It is not necessary for you to attend the court date so We will address your traffic infraction at the time of the hearing. When you completed the client agreement form, you authorized Merrill Law to act on your behalf at the court hearing.

What happens next?

After the hearing we will monitor your file for the court clerks to complete the updates in the court docket regarding your case.

This is a very important step as the Docket Entry directly affects your driving record. We want to make sure that this has been correctly entered to reflect the decisions that were made at Court.

Once the docket has been updated and the outcome is verified by the attorney, we will notify you by mail of the outcome of your case. This process normally takes several days to a week.

Call us now to ask additional questions or to hire an experienced attorney who has deep connections with the local legal system.

Donate to Beck's Place to Help People and Pets

Jack 1500.jpg

We are  collecting donations for Beck’s Place in Monroe.

At Beck’s Place they are committed to helping people and pets move forward in life.  Keeping families together is important to Beck's Place and pets are part of the family.

The signature program that they offer is a fostering service for those who must leave their pets for medical care, treatment, or other safety reasons.  Melanie , founder of Beck's Place, mentioned that there are many seniors who will refuse care, so they do not need to leave or lose their pets.

Knowing that when they return, their pet will be waiting to rejoin the family is important to many of these owners and allows them to make the choices needed to improve their lives.

In addition to the fostering service, they meet needs related to food, supplies, cleaning, hygiene items, sleeping and outdoor supplies, and even clothing for both people and pets.

Please Bring Your Donation to the Law Office of Rick Merrill

  • We will be accepting donations through the end of the year at 3625 Colby Avenue, Everett, WA 98201. During Business Hours.

We are accepting donations for Beck's Place to be shared with those in our local community who are struggling.

  • Cat and dog food

  • Dog sweaters or coats

  • Hygiene Items

  • Cleaning supplies

  • Sleeping or outdoor supplies

  • or other items noted on their website.

Helping in our local community is something that each one of us can do.

Educator of the Month William Stuflick

2018 EOM William shuflick 1500.jpg

Rick Merrill is Honoring Educators in Snohomish County...

Who demonstrate their care and commitment to each generation of children.   Winners are presented a plaque donated by Awards Service, Inc., a great big check to display, and $500 to help defray miscellaneous costs for the classroom.

We would like to Congratulate the November Educator of the Month Winner…
William Stuflick, of the Everett Community College.

Please Enjoy this Nomination by Lyla H…

William and I met in June, 2018 while I was trying to network and find meaningful post-secondary opportunities for my high school students at Lake Stevens High School. I am a life skills teacher at Lake Stevens and had the opportunity to teach a work experience class to seniors during the 2018-2019 school year.

Although I was very excited, I had no budget or any real curriculum to hit the ground running. I wanted to make a difference, but didn’t know how. So as soon as summer started, I started looking to my community for help. I spent a lot of my summer meeting with people in Snohomish County to try and build partnerships that I could extend into my classroom.

One of these meetings was with William Stuflick at Everett Community College. William is a Dean there and spent time meeting with me so I could learn about, not only opportunities with Everett Community College, but opportunities outside of college as well. Many of my students are credit deficient and do not have college as an immediate goal in their future.

William took the time to listen to every unique story I told him about my students and gave me a chance to brainstorm ideas for gaps I was hoping to fill. Even though I had no specific requests, it was nice to have a partner in the community help me help these students. William and I met multiple times during the Summer and came up with a plan to support the kids once the school year officially started.

I had a tentative plan to have William come visit our classroom once a month, and was worried even that would be too much since he would be leaving EVCC to come see us at LSHS. Due to limited transportation funding, William was more than happy to come to us which made us even more excited since students would not miss extra class travelling. Not only did William want to come out once a month to our classroom, but he requested to come out every two weeks.

Every visit, he brings an engaging, hands-on lesson that captivates the students and makes them WANT to learn. They are drawn to his personality, his history, and the stories he has to tell so that they can learn from his past mistakes.

William has spent countless dollars bringing in supplies to make learning hands-on for my students. He has made fun lessons like replicating metal sheet work cutting and fluffy slime to mimic pouring a cast in the nursing field. He has even bought them all Wendy’s as well!

The kids have learned core academic concepts, but I am blown away with the social skills that they are learning. These key soft skills like communication, self-advocacy, flexibility and much more are authentic learning opportunities that William integrates into all of his lessons. I am simply grateful to be even in the same classroom with him when he teaches.

William is kind, he is genuine, and he wants to make a difference in people's lives. He has devoted a lot of time outside of his own work and personal life to come and support students who society will let fall through the cracks if someone doesn't help them. I know this award would mean a lot to him, and hopefully be a small gesture from me to show him how much he means to us at Lake Stevens.

Note from William…

I wanted to send you another thank you for the award. I sincerely appreciate Mr. Merrill's generosity in recognizing our efforts with the Lake Stevens kids. Each student in now on pace to graduate this year; with one student graduating in the winter semester.

The funds awarded have been donated to the EvCC Center for Disability Services to help provide direct support to students with disabilities. These funds will go a long way to assisting students with achieving their academic goals! Once again thank you all so much for the award and the funding to assist our students of promise.
